Brampton's housing falls into three broad groups. Downtown Brampton has the oldest stock, with brick and frame houses around the historic core. Bramalea was built from the late 1950s through the 1970s as one of Canada's first planned satellite communities, with bungalows, semis and back-splits on alphabetized streets, and Heart Lake followed in the 1970s and 1980s. Springdale, Sandringham-Wellington, Fletcher's Meadow, Mount Pleasant and Castlemore make up the 1990s-to-2010s growth: two-storey detached homes, semis and townhouses, plus larger estate homes in Castlemore.
The Bramalea and Heart Lake houses need the repairs that come with age: worn exterior doors, aluminium storm doors, aging bathroom fixtures, sagging closet doors and cracks where old plaster meets newer drywall.
