Handyman in High Park

The streets around High Park were mostly built out with solid brick family homes, and many of them still have original plaster walls, hardwood floors, oak or pine trim and deep front porches. They are well built, but a century of settling, renovating and re-renovating leaves a recognisable list of repairs. We see the same handful of issues again and again from Roncesvalles to Runnymede, and our builder background means we fix the cause where we can, not just the symptom.

What we fix most often in the west end

• Interior doors that no longer latch because the frame has racked, especially on second floors
• Plaster cracks and failed patches on stairwell walls and ceilings, repaired and blended for paint
• Squeaky stair treads and loose handrails and newel posts on long central staircases
• Porch steps, railings and trim worn by snow, salt and foot traffic
• Basement drywall and trim repairs after a waterproofing contractor has finished their work

Roncesvalles has a lot of tall, narrow semis with long hallways and shared brick walls, so anything heavy mounted on the party wall goes into masonry. Swansea's larger detached homes on the slopes toward the Humber tend to have more rooms, more doors and more windows to adjust, and sometimes older additions with a different framing style. In Bloor West Village and High Park North, many owners are updating rather than gutting: new light fixtures on existing boxes, faucets and vanities, refreshed trim, and a mounted TV in a living room that was never wired for one. The Junction mixes older houses with newer townhomes and condo units along Dundas West.

Street parking with permits is normal here, and many homes have only lane access at the back. We plan around it and carry in what the job needs.
