An appliance that runs is not the same as an appliance that is installed properly. Most leaks, rattles and early failures we see come from the hook-up: a kinked drain hose, a reused supply line, a dryer pushed back onto crushed foil duct. Here is how we approach the most common installs in Toronto kitchens and laundry rooms.
We confirm the opening and countertop height, then run a new braided supply line from a dedicated shut-off valve, never a worn compression fitting. The drain hose gets a high loop or air gap so dirty sink water cannot siphon back into the tub. Many dishwashers are hard-wired with a junction box rather than plugged in; we connect to the existing supply and confirm it is on its own protected circuit. The unit is levelled, secured to the counter or cabinet sides, and run through a cycle while we check every fitting with a flashlight.
Over-range microwaves hang from a wall plate that must be fastened into studs, plus bolts through the upper cabinet. We set them to vent outside where a duct exists or to recirculate where it does not, which is common in condos. Wall ovens need a correctly sized cut-out and the right supply; we connect to an existing compatible circuit, and if a new one is needed we coordinate a licensed electrician.
