Most door repair in Toronto is not about the door itself. A door that drags at the top latch corner usually has loose top-hinge screws; replacing one short screw with a long one that reaches the wall framing pulls it back into line. A door that sticks every July and swings freely in January is reacting to humidity and may need a light plane on the binding edge, which is then sealed so it does not swell again. In older houses where floors and frames have settled out of square, we adjust hinges and strike plates before any wood is removed, since planing is the one fix you cannot undo.
Latching problems are usually a strike plate that no longer lines up with the latch. Moving the strike and deepening its mortise is a short job; filing the plate is only a stopgap.
If the existing frame is sound, a new slab door is the cleaner door installation: hinge mortises are routed to match the frame, the lockset is bored, and the edges are trimmed for an even gap all round. When the frame is damaged, a prehung unit replaces frame and door together, which means removing the casing, shimming the jamb plumb and re-trimming both sides. That is a bigger job and is scoped before booking.
